We invited some of our favourite bloggers down to come and try our new menu. Here’s what they thought…
The steamed duck gua bao buns were incredible, and probably my favourite part of the meal!
The soft steamed buns were filled with crispy shredded duck, cucumber, peanuts, spring onion and a rich hoisin sauce. The duck was so fresh and crunchy, the vegetables fresh and the accompanying sweet, sticky sauce made it the perfect filling but light starter…. Overall, we had a fantastic meal at Giraffe in Chelmsford and I look forward to returning again soon, especially for those super delicious duck buns!
We decided to order two starters and share them as we were recommended them. I always do my best to try the foods that the staff recommend as they know the menu so well. We went with the Prawn Saganaki; king prawns cooked in tasty garlic, chili, white wine & tomato sauce with crumbled feta, served with toasted flatbread. This was amazing and I totally think it should be part of a pasta dish, it’d work so well. Our other started was the Salt & Pepper Squid with sweet chili jam and fresh lime. The squid, which I’m mega fussy with, was so good.
Mum in a Nutshell
There’s plenty of choice and deciding was really difficult so I took all the advice the staff offered. It was great to be able to try some foods I’d never had before, that world kitchen status is no lie… So to sum it up, if you’re looking for a relaxed dining experience with happy, friendly staff, a great variety of food with a lean to the healthier side then I’d totally recommend an evening at Giraffe World Kitchen.
The Devon Foodie
As the name suggests, Giraffe sells itself as something of a global affair. Take a quick glance at its extensive offerings and you’ll find everything from American short ribs to Japanese Katsu and spicy Mexican burritos. It’s rare to find such a diverse selection of food on one menu and when you’re a bit of a fussy eater this approach is very appealing indeed… Overall, we were really impressed with what Giraffe had to offer and we would definitely return again to sample more of their diverse menu.
I was talked into ordering the Nacho sharing platter. And oh my god it was yum! There was so much guac and sour cream, I honestly found my happy place. I was so happy that my friend hates all the sauces so he got all the boring chips (nachos) with just cheese or chili beans on them, while I got everything…. I honestly can not fault the staff, the food or the chefs. I had such an amazing time.
Popcorn and Glitter
I really liked the Moroccan and sixties style of decor and, although it is still suitable for families, the overall feel of the place made for a far better venue to grab some tapas and a cocktail. As usual, the service was prompt and super friendly. I could not fault any of the team who were not only fantastic with us, but seemed to be just as brilliant with the other tables too.
