Giraffe has been committed to the Code of Best Practice on Service Charges, Tips, Gratuities and Cover Charges. Since the 1st October 2009, all employees receive at least National Minimum Wage.
Tips and service charge are paid in addition to National Minimum Wage.
Each of our restaurants operate in one of two ways in allowing our customers to reward the staff for their hospitality, food and service.
- An optional service charge is added to your bill for the benefit of all staff and convenience and guidance for our guests. Guests can however amend the optional service charge to reward the team for their meal.
- A traditional discretionary tipping system. This means there is no service charge added to the bill and that the customer chooses how much to reward by either cash or credit card to their server or the team for the food and service that they have received. All cash and credit card tips are placed in a tronc pool and are shared out to all staff.
Both discretionary and service charge tipping policies are subject to a 10% deduction for administrative and other business costs, prior to a full distribution to employees in the restaurant. All tips and gratuities are controlled by a staff representative.
